Storm Report

091205

>From Jack Holt in Leesville, LA

For the last few days we have been saying that brethren are not being
allowed back into their homes, and that all needs we were aware of were
being met. That situation has now changed. Within this report I will be
relaying the first request for assistance we have received.

After the storm hit we received many request in Emails and phone calls for
information on how to help. Early on we saw that all sheltering needs were
met, but we knew that more needs would develop as brethren returned home.
In anticipation of that we set up a database to collect Email addresses of
brethren and churches who wanted to help. Now the time has come to activate
that database and send out information concerning people who need that help.
It is important for everyone to understand that I am an "information middle
man" only. Neither I, nor the church here are accepting funds, nor can I
verify the requests I pass on. My function is to pass on needs I learn of.
It is the responsibility of the people who receive those requests for
assistance to contact the churches or individuals needing the assistance and
to verify the need and make arrangements to meet those needs. Having said
that, I do have a high degree of confidence that the needs we are relaying
are legitimate needs.

I have received the following request for assistance (it is actually an
edited compilation of two Emails received from Brother Wilt).

Dear Brother,

I'm an elder at the Northshore church in Mandeville, LA and would like to
update everyone concerning our situation and needs.

I have made contact with all members or someone that knows what each ones
status is and I'm happy to report that not one member even got a scratch.
Praise God for his protection.

The building (one year old) is in good condition. We lost our fence and a
few pieces of vinyl and two shingles. We will start having services this
coming Lord's day with or without power.

All of the needs as pertaining to the physical body have been met. We are
not in need of any supplies of any kind. Power is being restored along main
highways and as that happens the stores are beginning to open. You can now
get food, water and gas with out waiting in line at most places.

Pertaining to the financial needs they are great. We had services in my
daughter's home yesterday with 16 in attendance. Based on what I was told
the best estimate is $25,000 at this time. There are four severely damaged
homes. A tree fell on Jeff and Jana Carr's house and came all the way into
the living room. They rent so we moved their belongings into storage
awaiting another place for them to live. They did lose some furniture.
David and Karen Parks have the most damage. A 4-6 foot tidal surge went
through the first floor of their home destroying everything in its path.
Both Anita North and our homes took heavy damage to the roof system. Anita's
was more wind damage and ours was tree damage. We had four trees that had
been standing for approximately 55 years fall on our house. You can imagine
the size. We had 24 holes to patch to keep the rain out. My family and I
(our youngest daughter was staying with us) never want to experience
anything like that again. There were a lot of group hugs and prayers during
the storm.

Any financial help that anyone can send would be greatly appreciated. It can
be sent to;

I pray that churches and brethren will rise to meet this modest request for
assistance.

In other news we have received word that Ivan Valdes from Columbus, Indiana
has been translating into Spanish our posts concerning our brethren in the
Golf Coast, and sending this info to many of our brethren in Latinamerica
who have been concerned for their brethren here in the USA. Brother Valdes
asked me to do mention that all the brethren South of the Rio Bravo (Grande)
are praying on behalf of those who have suffered and giving thanks to our
God for sparing so many Christians, and that we our united by a common love,
faith and Lord.

God bless!
