AN ELDER

Is A Man

Who loves the Lord his God
With all his heart, and with all his soul,
And with all his mind,
And he loves his neighbor as himself.

Is A Man

Who manages his own household well,
Keeps his children under control
With all dignity.

Is A Man

That is above reproach, the husband of one
Wife whom he loves
As Christ loved the church.

Is A Man

That is temperate, prudent, respectable,
Hospitable, A good teacher,
Not addicted to wine.

Is A Man

That is gentle, not pugnacious,
Uncontentious, not a lover of money,
Has a good reputation outside the church,
And will never fall into condemnation
Incurred by the devil.
