Brethren and Friends, Jim Sasser here. A very good Saturday
morning to each and everyone. May God bless you and yours.
Here is an article from my recent files:
GOD HAS SPOKEN
Many of the ills of society and the church may be traced
to ills in the family relationship. Respect for authority and
the necessity of obedience must be learned there (Eph. 6:1-4)
In fact, all fundamental concepts and attitudes have their roots in the
family relationship. God has provided this relat-
ionship and has given instruction concerning its structure, its
duration, and its duties and responsibilities (Gen. 2:24; Eph.
5:22-33). By His decree, it is a relationship between a man
and a woman and the children that may be the products of
that union. Never did God authorize homosexual marriages,
homosexual behavior being abhorrent to Him (Lev. 18:22;
Rom. 1:22-32).
God has placed the duties of headship upon husbands.
"For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is Head
of the church, and He is the Savior of the body" (Eph. 5:23).
This is not the trend of our society, but it is the truth of God.
Husbands are responsible to love their wives as themselves
(Eph. 5:25,28), to bring up their children in the nurture and
admonition of the Lord (Eph. 6:4), to provide for their own
(1 Tim. 5:8; Eph. 5:29), and to execute all of their duties in
the fear of God, being themselves subject to God (1 Pet. 3:7).
A man who chooses to marry must understand and be willing
to abide by God's definition of a husband.
Can you imagine the strength of any society where hus-
bands behave in godliness and act responsibly as husbands
under God's authority, and have their children in subjection
with all gravity? How enriched such a society would be, freed
from the rampant lawlessness of those who fear neither God
nor man; and how strong the church of the Lord would be in
faithfulness, purity, and responsibility in all ethical, moral, and spiritual
aspects! Can we not commit ourselves to being
what we ought to be and endure to the end of our lives, doing
our part to make marriage what God intended, and giving Him
the obedience tht we owe Him? ------- Gilbert Alexander.
